The Epoxies
Need More Time 7"
Dirtnap Records ZZZ-12 2002
While writing this I came to the realization that I am a sucker for Eighties pop music. Most of the reviews this month take their cue from some weird vibe that was going on when Reagan was president, the Russians were going to bomb us any day, and the A-Team were in full effect.
Get the Picture?
The Epoxies are, well for lack of a
better description, "so totally Eighties man!". But that's ok because
the Portland, OR. quartet know full well that they are reformatting all the
crazy wackiness of Eighties culture and do it admirably. Complete with a keyboards
and a rhythm section that looks like they crawled out of The Damned's closet
The Epoxies rip their way through their music like it is going out of style
again.
After seeing them live I used the last of my booze money to buy their 7"
which features three tracks that will give you a pleasurable idea of just
what The Epoxies are about. My fav is actually the B-side Adam Ant cover "Beat
My Guest", which is a delicious little anthem, and chorus of sounds that
closely resemble yodeling backed by a ferocious tweaky-twang keyboard hum.
You can't help but dance to this little number, and dance you shall if you
pick up anything by The Epoxies and let yourself get swept up in their recycled
musical mayhem.
