So it's official. Electro Pop is cool again. New Wave is ok too. If you still have your doubts, then Figurine will give you a big hug and let you know that everything is going to be ok, and that its perfectly acceptable to like electro tinged pop music. Discard EP is the newest offering from this disjunctive UK trio who only meet up occasionally to record and do the occasional gig. Figurine make smashingly good pop tunes that when combined with synths, loops, and other effects are simply amazing. Discard EP is a far rougher series of beats that earlier Figurine releases, and whips and slides back and forth shaking off samples as it unravels. The CD even features 52 "discards" from four DJs Isan, Sutekh, Rechenzentrum, and Yabe Milk who have donated their samples to be used in the first four tracks of the EP, which despite their isolated nature are each mini compositions (some no more than 2 seconds in length) for one to enjoy. The four songs themselves are drippy, cybernaut-love ditties, which smear words of desire, with clicking and chirping samples that make one feel like shagging their i-book in frustrated, electronic abandon.
