GOGOGO Airheart: Exitheuxa

It is always nice to hear a band that keeps getting better and more complex with each album they release. Go Go Go Airheart has certainly been hard at work in producing their newest record Exitheuxa and at a recent show at Spaceland in Los Angeles, it was obvious that the toil and drudgery that goes into making an album paid off- the place was crammed full of GGGAH fans who's only disappointment was that the band hadn't brought any CDs up from San Diego and only made the longing worse by playing a brilliant set that blissfully seemed to go on forever. The Go Go Go Airheart flavor is a jerky chug of guitars and diverse percussion, centered on the hyper, chirp-like wail of lead singer Michael Vermillion. The songs are made up of a series of discordant melodies that occasionally become crisp and focused, but just as quickly drop back into the disjunctive melee of layered rhythm structures and harmonies. The baselines are perhaps the most continuous aspect of Go Go Go Airheart's sound, and at times recall a former period in music, when the genres of Punk and Funk, not to mention Reggae were frequently used in the same sentence.
