drowning in culture: Music Reviews
The Manifolds/DC Special
10 song EP

Los Angeles has a knack for producing some of the loudest, crunchiest bands in existence, and both the Manifolds and DC Special hold the torch high in this regard.

The Manifolds spit glass and gravel from their amps. Shifting between no-holds-bared garage and bluesy rock n' roll, they manage to pack a wallop into the 5 songs on that hold their name on this EP. Reminiscent of the Super-Fuzz-Big-Muff days of the early 90's, the Manifolds sound is loud, obnoxious, and very, very, crusty.

Qualities those are very similar to their EP-mates DC Special. If you thought your ears were ringing with the Manifolds, DC Special will shatter them. Volleys of feedback, and heavy guitar compose the assault DC Special seems to prefer. While much of the sound comes off as a nightmare-scape of bad rock, the lads of DC Special still manage a sound that is palatable, though not exactly this reviewer's fare.

If you like your music loud n' filthy, than this EP should peak your interest, and satisfy you desire for lots of dirty rock n' roll.
